The Mooresville-Lake Norman (NC) Exchange Club hosted the Field of Flags, Memorial Day Weekend Celebration. It was an awe-inspiring field of American Flags with each flag representing a soldier who fell in the line of duty. The event opened with a Processional from the Mooresville Fire Pipes and Drum that set the mood for the occasion and it was just one of several numbers performed by this talented group.
The keynote speaker was Tracey Edwards, Chief Executive Officer of the National Exchange Club. The National Exchange Club is the only service organization exclusively serving communities in the United States. More than 650 local clubs throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico provide individuals with opportunities to use their time and talents to benefit their local communities and the country as a whole. Exchange’s Core Values are family, community, and country.
The event featured a tribute to the Armed Services, with the playing of each branch’s song, and a recognization to veterans in attendance. However, the key moment for the event was the calling out of names. Each flag in the field stood there in memory of a fallen serviceman. This year’s field was filled with 595 stars and stripes. The event was closed with the playing of taps.
We encourage everyone to make a moment of silence in their lives to remember those fallen men and women who sacrificed their lives so that we can all be free – today, tomorrow, and forever.
