Now – October 7, 2018. Biltmore House & Gardens opens to the public on Thursday–Sunday evenings for a special reservations-only viewing of Chihuly’s stunning large-scale glass sculptures. Chihuly Nights at Biltmore is an enchanting opportunity to witness the effects of dramatic nighttime lighting upon the luminous colors and graceful forms of these spectacular pieces. (NC Weekend)

June 26 – 2:00 p.m. JR Shanty Co., Julianne Laird and Richard Workman, specialize in sea shanties and other coastal tunes. They are adding pirate tunes to the mix to help celebrate BLACKBEARD 300. Their acapella or instrument-accompanied songs are a blend of originals, traditional musical tales, and humorous tunes. (NC DCR)
June 30 – Noon – 5:00 p.m. Held in Sorrento’s Dining Complex in Banner Elk this is a day of special wine and beer tastings from the High Country and surrounding areas! Admission includes a complimentary glass, (20 tastes in the flight of tastings). June 25-July 27, 5:30 – 7:25 p.m. * North Carolina State University. Explorations in Creative Writing (ENG 287), provides an introduction to the basic elements and principles of three genres of creative writing: poetry, fiction and drama. The course will include reading and class discussion of student work. It is recommended for students with no prior experience in creative writing. (NCWN)
