North Carolina Ramblings – July 17, 2018

Welcome to our Ramblings feature as we help you explore Lovely Things NC.

Ashe County Bluegrass and Old Time Fiddlers Convention

July 27 – 28 – Jefferson. Ashe County Bluegrass and Old Time Fiddlers Convention brings the best in local musicians and dancers. Enjoy an old-fashioned Appalachian Barn Dance on Friday night to kick off the music festival. Enjoy live youth and adult band and individual music and dance competitions on Saturday. (Visit NC)

Family Day: Historic Games

July 28 – 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. – Durham. Bring your family to Duke Homestead for a day of fun and hands-on learning. Life on a 19th-century farm was pretty different from today, but some things don’t change – kids in the 1800s loved to play, too! Join a day of historic games, from parlor games to town ball, and make a toy of your own. (NCDNCR)

July 25 – National Wine and Cheese Day at Ashe County Cheese

Ashe County Cheese is divided. On side of the street is the general store and on the other the factory. After visiting the store, we learned cheese was being made and made a quick beeline over to the factory.

English Farmstead Cheese

Located on US 221 North only a short drive away from both Asheville and the NC high country, our farm store offers a variety of farmstead cheeses and local fare. The name “farmstead” denotes that our cheeses are made from milk produced on site. In fact, the milk from our cows travels only a stone’s throw to the farm store, where it is crafted into a variety of hard cheeses and soft cheese spreads.

What makes Water Buffalo cheeses so delicious?

Fading D Farm is a small family owned farmstead Water Buffalo dairy dedicated to introducing all of the uniqueness of raising Water Buffalo and the delightful flavors of Water Buffalo products that are loved around the world but difficult to obtain in North America
